What To Know About Your Credit Acceptance Pre-Qualification

If you’ve received a pre-qualification email from Credit Acceptance, you’ve already taken the first step toward owning your next vehicle.

Pre-qualification can give you more control over your car-buying experience, especially if you’re rebuilding credit, have limited credit history, or have been turned down elsewhere. But what exactly is pre-qualification, and how should you use it at the dealership?

What pre-qualification means (and what it doesn’t)

Being prequalified by Credit Acceptance means you’ve completed an initial application and have passed a basic review of your financial information, including income, employment, and credit profile.

Your pre-qualification is not an approval, but rather a strong indicator that you’re likely to qualify for financing once a full application and vehicle details are reviewed. It’s an easy way to see what’s possible before stepping onto a lot.

Understanding your pre-qualified amount

When you prequalify online, Credit Acceptance provides an estimate of the monthly payment you may qualify for. Please note: This estimate doesn’t include taxes, fees, or optional add-ons such as warranties or service plans. However, our estimate should help you narrow down your options, allowing you and the dealer to focus on cars that make financial sense for you.

What to expect at the dealership

As you might have noticed, your Credit Acceptance pre-qualification matches you with participating dealerships in your area. These dealers will have vehicles in stock that may align with your estimated price range and meet your financing eligibility requirements.

When you arrive, immediately let the dealer know that you’re pre-qualified with Credit Acceptance. Once there, you’ll complete the financing application process. You’ll also submit some documentation, such as proof of income, insurance, and a driver’s license. From that point on, the dealer will work with us to finalize your approval. Once this information is provided, the dealer will give you a more accurate picture of what you qualify for, which a simple pre-qualification cannot.

Where can you use your pre-qualification?

Credit Acceptance financing is available only through dealerships that participate in the Credit Acceptance program — over 15,000 nationwide! This means we do not finance private party sales (i.e., buying directly from another person). All transactions must go through a participating dealer.
